Lincoln Park’s Best Patios and Rooftops

Lincoln Park’s outdoor dining runs from a 13th-floor rooftop with a retractable glass roof to beer gardens, sidewalk patios and a lakefront terrace inside the park. Most patios here open for the warm months, roughly late spring through early fall. A handful have covered, enclosed or all-season spaces for cooler days. Here are the spots we verified in October 2026, with what each outdoor space is like.

Patios and rooftops at a glance

“All-season” means the venue describes the space as covered, enclosed or open year-round. Seating and hours change, so check before you go.

Rooftops and views

Lincoln Park has one true rooftop bar and two dining rooms with outdoor seats right in the park.

  • The J. Parker sits on the 13th floor of the Hotel Lincoln at 1816 N. Clark St., at the south end of the neighborhood. It has about 140 seats on the terrace and 55 inside. A retractable glass roof covers roughly 2,000 square feet, so the rooftop can open on warm days and close in bad weather; Time Out Chicago describes it as a year-round rooftop. Weekend brunch runs 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • The Lakefront Restaurant at Theater on the Lake (2401 N. DuSable Lake Shore Dr.) has an 80-seat Skyline Patio facing Lake Michigan and the downtown skyline. The patio opens seasonally, and the indoor Eastlake Terrace serves the rest of the year. The restaurant posts its open days on a calendar, so check it first.
  • North Pond (2610 N. Cannon Dr.) has patio tables overlooking the pond. Dining is by reservation, but patio and front-room tables are assigned first-come, first-served, so you can’t request one ahead.

Pair a lakefront meal with a walk; our parks and lakefront guide covers the paths, the Lakefront Trail and nearby attractions.

All-season and covered patios

For spring and fall, when the weather turns quickly, these spaces are covered or enclosed.

  • Homeslice (938 W. Webster Ave.) has an enclosed back beer garden with retractable windows, cabanas and picnic tables. It’s 21 and over. Weekend brunch runs until 3:30 p.m., with $35 bottomless mimosas or Bloody Marys until 1:30 p.m.
  • Summer House Santa Monica (1954 N. Halsted St.) has an all-season courtyard and a dog-friendly front patio. Inside, the main room has a retractable glass ceiling.
  • Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba! (2024 N. Halsted St.) has a covered all-season patio for tapas and sangria.
  • The Galway Arms (2442 N. Clark St.), an Irish pub not yet in our directory, has a covered patio that Time Out Chicago says is heated in winter.

Only The Galway Arms is confirmed as heated by a recent source. If heat matters, call ahead. Our Lincoln Park in winter post has more cold-weather ideas.

Beer gardens and bar patios

For drinks outside with a group, these bars put the most space outdoors.

  • Broken Barrel (2548 N. Southport Ave.) has a beer garden of about 2,000 square feet with large booths. Weekend specials include $25 bottomless mimosas.
  • Willie Lill’s (433 W. Diversey Pkwy.) is a Southern-style sports bar with an open-air patio. In 2026 it hosted yoga classes on the patio, followed by brunch and $25 bottomless Bloody Marys and mimosas.
  • Armitage Alehouse (1000 W. Armitage Ave.) adds about 30 patio seats in warm weather, mostly along Sheffield. Patio tables are walk-in only; check in with the host.
  • Prost! (2566 N. Lincoln Ave.) is a German beer hall. OpenTable lists outdoor seating, but we couldn’t confirm details of a beer garden, so call ahead.

Casual patios for food

These restaurants have outdoor tables for lunch, brunch or an early dinner.

  • Parson’s Chicken & Fish (2435 N. Halsted St.) has a patio with white picnic tables and red-and-white striped umbrellas for the warmer months. It’s smaller than the original Logan Square patio.
  • Gemini (2075 N. Lincoln Ave.) has a dog-friendly patio and weekend brunch from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Our Lincoln Park dog guide has more places to bring a dog.
  • R.J. Grunts (2056 N. Lincoln Park West) has patio seating across from Lincoln Park Zoo, handy after a zoo visit.

Patio season tips

  • Timing: most seasonal patios open in late spring and close in early to mid fall, depending on the weather. Venues rarely post fixed dates, so check social media or call.
  • Walk-ins: many patios, including North Pond and Armitage Alehouse, seat outdoor tables first-come, first-served.
  • Ages: some beer gardens, such as Homeslice’s back patio, are 21 and over.
  • Getting there: take the Brown Line to Armitage or the Red or Brown Line to Fullerton. See getting around Lincoln Park and our zoned parking guide.
  • Fall outings: the end of patio season overlaps with Halloween in Lincoln Park and, soon after, ZooLights.
