Levain Bakery’s Lincoln Park shop is at 849 W. Armitage Ave., about one block east of the CTA Armitage Brown and Purple Line station. It opened in November 2025 as the New York bakery’s third Chicago location and 19th nationwide.
What it’s known for
Founders Pam Weekes and Connie McDonald opened the first Levain on West 74th Street in New York in 1995, and the bakery is best known for its large, thick cookies. The Lincoln Park menu lists chocolate chip walnut, dark chocolate chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, dark chocolate peanut butter chip, two chip chocolate chip, white chocolate macadamia, caramel coconut chocolate chip and a vegan, gluten-free chocolate chip walnut, along with seasonal flavors.
The shop also sells sourdough loaves and baguettes, brioche, muffins, scones, loaf cakes, a few sandwiches (such as tomato, arugula and burrata) and a coffee and espresso menu. Windy City Times reported that about 250 people were in line when the doors opened on opening day, and that Levain donated that day’s proceeds to Care for Friends, a Lincoln Park nonprofit.
