Adams (George & Adele) Park, usually called Adams Playground, is a 0.78-acre Chicago Park District park at 1919 N. Seminary Ave. in Lincoln Park. It sits about a block and a half southwest of the CTA Armitage Brown and Purple Line station, and it is the program hub for several small parks nearby, including Privet Park.
What it’s known for
The park dates to 1902 and is named for attorney and Congressman George Adams (1840–1917) and his wife Adele (Foster) Adams, who gave the City about two-thirds of an acre. By 1904 it had playground apparatus, a shelter house and a sand court under the City’s Special Park Commission, on which George Adams served. A playing field added by 1916 was flooded in winter for skating. The park passed to the Chicago Park District in 1957, and an interactive waterplay area, funded by a bequest from retired schoolteacher Dorothy Melamerson, opened in 1997.
Today the park has a playground, a sandbox, a water spray feature, a picnic grove and a small fieldhouse with a clubroom. The fieldhouse runs classes for young children. The fall 2026 schedule included Moms, Pops & Tots, Little Artists, Gym Monkeys and Bitty Basketball, along with an improv class for ages 7 to 9.
