Privet Park is a 0.16-acre Chicago Park District playground at 1844 N. Sheffield Ave., about one long block south of Armitage Avenue. The CTA Armitage Brown and Purple Line station, at 944 W. Armitage Ave., is a short walk north. The park is supervised from Adams Playground Park, a few blocks away on Seminary Avenue.
What it’s known for
It is one of the smallest playgrounds in the neighborhood. Its one facility, Privet Playground, has a blue-and-yellow play structure with a slide and a tunnel, which suits toddlers and preschoolers.
The Chicago Park District bought the vacant lot from Turtle Wax, Inc. in 1970. It was officially named Privet Park in 1974, one of several parks named for trees and plants at that time. Privets are shrubs or small trees in the olive family, originally from Europe, grown for their foliage and white flowers.
