Park West Park is a 0.21-acre Chicago Park District playlot at 745 W. Wrightwood Ave., in the residential blocks between Halsted Street and Clark Street in northeast Lincoln Park. Ándale Market is on the same block, at 725 W. Wrightwood. The CTA Fullerton and Diversey stations are each about a third of a mile west.
What it’s known for
The Park District calls it a small playground that is a popular gathering place for families with young children. It has an ADA-accessible soft-surface playground with slides and climbing structures, including a climbing wall, plus a brick patio, planters and landscaping.
The City bought the Wrightwood Avenue lot in 1916 to build a fire station. After the fire department moved, the property went to the City’s Bureau of Parks and Recreation, which added a spray pool, a sandbox and playground equipment by 1950. It passed to the Chicago Park District in 1957. For years it was called Wrightwood Playlot. In 1979 it was renamed Park West Park at the request of 43rd Ward Alderman Martin J. Oberman and the Park West Community Association, which also set it apart from Wrightwood Park a few blocks west. The playground and plantings were rehabilitated in 1990.
