Floriole is a French-inspired bakery and cafe at 1220 W. Webster Ave. in Lincoln Park, between Racine and Magnolia avenues, run by chef-owner Sandra Holl. It serves seasonal pastries, sourdough bread, sandwiches, coffee and desserts.
What it’s known for
Floriole started as a stand at Green City Market, where Holl sold on Wednesdays and Saturdays, before opening the Webster Avenue bakery and cafe in spring 2010, as WBEZ reported at the time. Green City Market describes the bakery as pairing French technique with Midwestern ingredients and working with local farmers through the seasons.
The pastry case has long featured French classics: WBEZ’s opening coverage mentioned galettes, croissants and cannelés, and Time Out Chicago has highlighted the cannelés (small fluted cakes flavored with vanilla and rum) and the gateau basque, an almond cake filled with pastry cream and berries. The cafe also serves sandwiches and other lunch dishes.
